Michele and Jamie vs. The Volcano........

From the top of Old Snowy Mountain in the Goat Rocks Wilderness, you can see up to six volcanoes on a clear day. Standing on top in the sun, Jamie and I had a thought. What if we climbed and skied all of those beautiful mountains? We looked at each other with a glimmer in our eyes and made it a goal.

The snow-capped volcanoes of the Cascades are the most enchanting landmarks of the Pacific Northwest. Their vertical rise and massive snowfall make for some of the longest ski descents and bestow one of the longest ski seasons in the world. The Cascade Volcanic Arc stretches through southwestern British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and northern California. It includes upwards of twenty major volcanoes.

In June, 2011 we set off to climb and ski/snowboard the Volcanoes we could see from the top of the Goat Rocks. We successfully summited and skied Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier and Mt.  Baker.  As we were climbing these majestic mountains, another thought came to mind. We should climb and ski all of the volcanoes in the Cascades.

Our ambition is to climb and ski all of the Volcanoes in the Cascade Volcanic Arc! We will begin climbing April 2012, starting with Lassen in southern California and heading north into British Columbia. Here are some photos from the Volcanoes we skied so far. Most summited, some aren't summitable,  some we'll have to try again.  Follow the links for a full trip report.
